  1. The previous mobile app seemed to be more of a full port of the website to mobile.

What I would love to see is a mobile app that focuses on:
    * Stack status - container and VM telemetry
    * SSH access - make it easy to remotely and securely start an SSH session with a container or VM

  2. Solr Search is a reference search engine based of the apache lucene project and one of the oldest supported search engines for rails. Adding support for it would be really awesome, as it needs to be updated whenever a model is updated and when searches are done. By having it within the cloud66 solution we would have lower latency updates.

  3. Hi,

I am having the exact same issue on both an iMac running Sierra and a Windows PC running Windows 7. My co-worker (who is in a different location so it is NOT a connection error) is also unable to upload large files. We both tried to upload files that were 800+MB and the upload immediately fails and said "Unable to upload. Lost connection."

    For More Details:-

    Thanks

  5. We want to (manually) test our latest code against a fresh copy of the data to see whether all functionality works and the migrations are run correctly (as per point 3 in http://community.cloud66.com/articles/using-production-data-on-your-staging-stack).

So being able to post a(n additional) webhook call before we post the actual deployment hook, or via a command in the configuration files would be great.

  8. We used to be able to use unmanaged backups to backup our databases to S3. That option is now gone and all our unmanaged backups get backed up to /var/cloud66/backups on the local server where the database resides. That's like backing up my computer and then putting that backed up data on the same computer that I was trying to back up.... hm... what?

It seems like you are giving us two choices: managed and unmanaged, but in reality there's only one choice because the other one doesn't even make sense. I strongly urge you guys to bring the old…

  9. Hi. When migrating to cloud66 from other provider, an option to upload database dump in UI, which would then be restored in the database would be very helpful. Uploading and restoringvia ssh is really troublesome

  12. Employ easy replication and multi AZ redundancy, size changes on the fly and all the rest of the great RDS features while still using Cloud66 dashboards.

  14. I have just started using Vultr.com and seeing pretty impressive performance improvements over Digital Ocean. Looks like its got a very similar API so would be great to have this as a supported cloud hosting provider.

  15. It'd be nice if I could enable an add-on to place all files, especially database files, on an encrypted (EncFS) volume.

This would automatically settle (parts of) HIPAA-like compliance without having to implement encryption in individual software layers. Having the entire VPS volume encrypted using EncFS is transparent to userland. The data on disk is encrypted, the data in RAM is decrypted. It should actually probably be a default setting, as unencrypted data on disk can be read by the VPS provider.

The downside is that the key must be provided on boot; the encrypted volume won't mount without it.…

  17. I will mention Sendgrid but it's same for other services like Mailgun, Amazon SES etc.

Setting up Sendgrid SMTP for use with ActionMailer is easy and works fine when the background workers are added to the mix. However it doesn't scale well in the long run. The best practice is to use e.g. Postfix mail transfer agent (MTA) and relay to Sendgrid. Rails can then simply use sendmail and all SMTP queueing and heavy-lifting is done by Postfix.

Here's the excerpt from the Sendgrid integration docs:

"A local mail server, such as Postfix, is the most robust way to send…

  18. I love the simplicity of deploying apps with your service. Just a little bit of config, and then I don't need to worry about anything.

Once it's deployed, however, you begin offering some services that I don't need... and often have trouble justifying paying for. I don't need automatic scaling, monitoring, or backups.

It would be great if you considered offering a lower-tier service at a reduced cost that just deployed apps and let us manage them ourselves. A dashboard of all my apps would be enough for me to manage my low-traffic sites on my own, and it might…
