Autoscaling
Scale up / down servers automatically according to server load or according to a schedule
Cloud 66 now supports server scaling for Rails via a new Cloud 66 Zapier Integration. Please check our posts on “Autoscaling with Zapier” and “Cloud 66 and Automating tasks using Zapier” for more information.

This would very interesting, in particular if support for AWS spot instances would be added also.
Any news on this?

Our first implementation of autoscaling was based on InfluxDB as a backend but unfortunately InfluxDB has failed so far to keep up with the reliability we require as an autoscaling metrics storage. We have been evaluating other solutions now. Sorry for the long delay in delivering this.

For me, automatic scaling based on server utilization would be ideal.
I could see this having the potential to save a lot of people a lot of money. As of right now, you pretty much have to scale your servers to your peak utilization and keep them there even during slow times to avoid User-facing performance issues.
With this, it could automatically scale back your servers during slow utilization and reduce the numbers of hours used on your hosting platform.
Looking forward to it.

1. One way would be according to a schedule. For example, if my website has more traffic over the weekends and a lot less on the weekdays, I'd like to be able to add a few more servers on Fri and remove them on Mon automatically.
2. Another way could be like AWS Elastic Beanstalk, where you monitor the average CPU utilitization, latency, etc. and add servers automatically if it reaches a certain threshold.

There are two prerequisites for auto scaling:
- Automatic server deletion
- Restructuring of our monitoring system. We just rolled out our new monitoring system and are working on allowing server deletions. Once that's done, we can start working on autoscaling. But before that, what would you like to see in auto scaling? What are the rules and actions you would like to see?

It would be really nice to scale up/down based on a schedule.

This is one of the reason why I like AWS and Heroku. Autoscale (horizontal/vertical) when necessary. at least expose an API. But definitely best if we can set rules from the dashboard!
