Cloud 66 now supports server scaling for Rails via a new Cloud 66 Zapier Integration. Please check our posts on “Autoscaling with Zapier” and “Cloud 66 and Automating tasks using Zapier” for more information.

  2. Elasticsearch without the ability to scale to more than 1 node is ok for development, but any serious production environment needs to shard/replicate data to an elasticsearch cluster. Elasticsearch itself has great support for autoscaling.

BTW: Running ES on OpenJDK is really not a good idea.

  3. At the moment when you shutdown an instance or a stack on cloud 66 the instance continues to run on the cloud provider. You should provide a way to say to shut down the instance also there to avoid to do it manually every time

  6. Would like to have a stack for multiple rails apps. This would save money on VPS or EC2 instances if only 1 VPS instance was used.

  8. ElasticSearch is a great addition to a stack as a search server. Also, I hear some people use it as an app's sole data store.

  9. https://letsencrypt.org will soon be live and able to sign trusted SSL certificates automatically. I think this should be allowed on all stacks so they'd have instant https without having to buy a cert.

  10. Looks like virtual machines are unable to properly access the internet (i.e. external databases). We currently have to manually activate the 'Instance IP address' in the Azure portal to make it work.

  12. The point is to have Procfiles like Procfileqa.web, Procfileqa.data-processor, or of any other naming scheme but I hope you get the point - to be able to build heterogeneous applications which may be in different roles depending on the environment etc. And thus having different sets of processes for each particular role they may be in.

  13. Please tweak your deploy to avoid compile all the assets at each deploy, but just compile the ones that changed since the last deploy. Exactly like heroku does. This will speed up a lot the deploy process

  14. Engineyard used to do this via their gem and I loved it.

    Maybe something of the following:

    c66 console --stack=STACK

  15. Right now the rake task setup requires a schedule. Its also super useful to be able to just use the cloud66 interface to do 1 click manual rake tasks without ssh'ing in. So I'd love to have an option to not schedule rake tasks just have the link in the interface (I currently use a cron schedule for feb 31st so it never runs automatically). Also an easy way to run rake tasks on deploy would be neat too. I know it can be done via deploy hooks but would be prefer if I just had an 'after_deploy' option when…

  18. It would be good to see a list of deployments, maybe with the most recent commit message from each, and then be able to rollback to a particular release (just the code, so simply changing the web head symlink).

  19. you could setup your primary and then you could have a different availability zone or different cloud provider for failover. The slave db could be setup to replicate and the slave instances would get code updates but may be spun down to save money. Then if anything happens to primary the slave could be spun up and take over. It would be nice if you could support route53 and transition the dns as well.
